Try Something New! Aerial Lyra Hoop

Posted by Danzia on Wednesday, 05 July 2017

I don't know about you, but I have always had a fascination with acrobatics.
I vividly remember being about 10 years old and watching them perform at Circus Circus in Reno and being blown away.
I turned to my mom after the performance and told her that was something I desperately want to do.
Thanks to Momentum Dance and Fitness in Davis, I had the opportunity to witness our fabulous model, Claire try out this intense workout.

The Lyra Aerial Hoop is a circular steel apparatus suspended from the ceiling.
This is mostly known for circus artists to use for performing acrobatics.
This workout can be performed static, spinning or swinging depending on your level of advancement.

This type of workout utilizes a mix of balance and strength so it is important to STRETCH!
Also, always ensure that you have a spotter to make sure you don't fall or injure yourself.
Momentum Dance was kind enough to offer an instructor to come help us pose and she was so much fun!

The lyra workout involves performing yoga moves while balancing in mid air.
The key is to keep calm and focus on each movement.
This workout is perfect for dancers because it teaches you grace while in a stressful position.

Having a background in dance definitely helps Claire to hold these poses, however there are many levels of this class.
Beginners are welcome and encouraged to try this workout.
You can only improve if you try!

Momentum Dance and Fitness offers a wide variety of classes to switch up your workout!
